New 2017 Subaru WRX

2017 Subaru WRX Overview

  • Standard 268-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine
  • All-wheel drive comes standard
  • Available EyeSight Driver Assist System
The 2017 Subaru WRX is a sporty sedan that was initially based on the Impreza platform. It competes with the Volkswagen Golf GTI, Ford Focus ST, and Hyundai Veloster. The high-performance WRX STI version will be covered in a separate overview.

Three trims are available: the base model, Premium, and Limited.

The front-end of the WRX has race-focused styling, which includes an aggressive fascia, wide front fenders, and a functional hood scoop. However, the rest of the body has more plain sensibilities with a little bit of muscular definition. Standard features include a dual-pipe exhaust system, a rear spoiler, and 17-inch wheels. Available features include LED headlights, front fog lights, power/heated side mirrors with turn signal indicators, a power moonroof, a performance exhaust system, and larger 18-inch alloy wheels.

Under the hood, the WRX is powered by a standard 268-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and all-wheel drive. Complementing the WRX’s symmetrical all-wheel drive is the Active Torque Vectoring system, which reduces understeer and enhances steering response during sharp turning maneuvers.  Fuel economy for the WRX manual is an EPA-estimated 20/27 mpg city/highway. It slightly decreases to a 18/24 mpg rating for the WRX CVT.

Inside, the WRX has a standard cloth interior with front bucket seats and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat. The center stack features a standard STARLINK audio system, which includes a 6.3-inch touch screen, Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio, and dual-USB ports. It can be upgraded to a 7-inch touchscreen, an integrated navigation system, and a Harmon Kardon premium audio system. Standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control. Leather upholstery, an automatic dimming rearview mirror, and a power/heated front seats are available as well.

Standard safety features include a backup camera and a tire pressure monitoring system. The WRX has an updated, available EyeSight Driver Assist System, which includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and lane departure warning. A blindspot monitoring system, lane change assist, and rear cross-traffic alert are also optional.
