2017 Hyundai Tucson Overview

  • Available 175-hp, turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder
  • New standard stain-resistant cloth interior
  • Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility is now available
The 2017 Hyundai Tucson is a compact SUV that seats 5 passengers. It competes with the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Ford Escape. This year, it received some newly available interior updates.

Four trims are available: the SE, Eco, Sport, and Limited.

Last year, the Tucson received a mid-cycle, sleek facelift. It has a large, hexagonal grille which is bordered by a pair of aggressive headlights. The underbody has a black-clad trim for a slightly rugged appearance. Standard features include power/heated side mirrors, a rear spoiler, and 17-inch wheels. Available features include Xenon HID headlights, LED headlights and daytime running lamps, front fog lights, turn signal indicators for the side mirrors, a power liftgate, a trailer hitch receiver, a roof rack, and larger 19-inch wheels.

Under the hood, the Tucson SE is powered by a standard 164-hp, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and front- (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). The Eco, Sport, and Limited trims are equipped with a more powerful 175-hp, turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder mated to a 7-speed automatic. Fuel economy for the 2.0-liter model is an EPA-estimated 23/30 mpg city/highway (21/26 mpg with AWD). The Eco trim increases fuel economy to a 26/32 mpg rating (25/30 mpg with AWD), while the Sport and Limited have slightly lower ratings of 25/30 mpg (24/28 mpg with AWD).

Inside, the Tucson has a new stain-resistant, black/gray cloth interior with a 60/40 split-folding rear seat. The center stack features a standard audio system that includes a 5-inch touchscreen, CD/MP3 playback, Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio, and a USB port. It can be upgraded to the newly updated Hyundai BlueLink multimedia system, which includes a larger 8-inch touchscreen, an integrated navigation system, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility, an HD radio, and an Infinity premium audio system. Standard features include air conditioning, remote keyless entry, and cruise control. Available features include leather upholstery, power/heated front seats, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, rear HVAC, an automatic dimming rearview mirror, and a power moonroof.

Standard safety features include a backup camera and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available features include a blindspot monitoring system, a rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane change assist, pedestrian detection, and automatic emergency braking. The available Drive Mode Select comes with three modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport.
