2016 Subaru Impreza Overview

New/Notable:
  • Sedan or hatchback bodystyle options
  • Newly available emergency communication services
  • Full 5-Star Overall Crash Test Safety Rating from the NHTSA
The 2016 Subaru Impreza comes as either a 4-door sedan or 5-door hatchback. It competes with the Honda Civic, Ford Focus, and Mazda3.

Five trims are available: the base model, Premium, Limited, Sport Premium, and Sport Limited.

The Impreza has a sporty front-end with organic-shaped headlights, a large hexagonal grille, and a wide-mouth fascia. The side profile shows off some slightly muscular forms at the quarter-panels. The rear-end features geometric taillights and chrome badging. Standard features include power side mirrors, a rear spoiler, and 15-inch wheels. Front fog lights, heated side mirrors, turn signal indicators at the side mirrors, a power moonroof, and larger 17-inch aluminum wheels are also available.

Under the hood, the Impreza is powered by a standard 148-hp, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a standard 5-speed manual transmission or an available continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and all-wheel drive. Fuel economy for the manual base model is an EPA-estimated 25/34 mpg city/highway. With the CVT equipped on the base model, Premium, or Limited trim, the rating improves to 28/37 mpg. The Sport Premium with a manual has the lowest rating at 24/33 mpg. However, the Sport Premium and Sport Limited with a CVT brings the rating back up to 27/36 mpg.

Inside, the Impreza has a standard fabric interior with a 60/40 split-folding rear seat. The center stack features a standard multimedia system that includes a 6.2-inch display, CD/MP3 playback, Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio, and a USB port. It can be upgraded to a 7-inch touchscreen, an integrated navigation system, an HD radio, a satellite radio, and dual USB ports. Standard features include a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, air conditioning, cruise control, and power windows/locks. Available features include leather upholstery, leather wrapped steering wheel, digital instrumentation, and automatic climate control.

The Subaru earned a full 5-star overall crash test safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Newly available emergency communication services include automatic collision notification, roadside assistance, and remote lock/unlock via smartphone. Other available features include adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist. A backup camera and a tire pressure monitoring system come standard.
