New 2016 Nissan Rogue

2016 Nissan Rogue Overview

New/Notable:
  • Compact SUV with an optional third-row that expands seating to seven
  • Up to 33 mpg highway
  • Front- or all-wheel drive
The 2016 Nissan Rogue is a compact SUV that offers flexible seating with its optional third-row.

Not many vehicles in this class can fit up to seven passengers, which gives the Rogue a leg up on much of the competition which includes the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4. The Rogue’s styling was updated in its redesign in 2014; the look is similar to what’s seen on the larger Pathfinder with a v-shaped front grille and sharper lines down the side of the SUV. Chrome accents around the side windows really stand out and add some visual pop. There are 17- and 18-inch wheels available across the trim levels.

Under the hood, the Rogue features a 170-hp, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine which outputs 175 pounds-feet of torque. A CVT is the only transmission option, and front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive optional.  Overall, the new Rogue offers an 18-percent improvement in highway fuel economy versus the old model. Front-wheel drive Rogue models return 26/33 mpg city/highway (AWD models get 25/32 mpg).

The Rogue also got wider and taller in the redesign, which increased interior volume for passengers and cargo. In addition to the optional third-row, the second-row also gets 9-inches of sliding travel, moving back to fit taller passengers or forward to fit more cargo or give third-row occupants more leg room. It is also split 40/20/40 instead of the usual 60/40 configuration, further aiding cargo flexibility.

For 2016, there are only two new technology options: Siri Eyes Free voice control for iPhone users and a forward emergency braking system. The Rogue comes with plenty of standard features, including Bluetooth connectivity, a rearview camera, USB port, and steering-wheel mounted audio controls are standard. The NissanConnect infotainment system is available, which uses your smartphone to power integrated apps like Pandora internet radio and Google search results.

The Rogue also offers plenty of optional safety technology, including blind spot warning, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and Nissan’s very cool Around View Monitor system. The Around View Monitor uses cameras located around the exterior of the Rogue to display a top-down view of the car in the center console, which makes maneuvering the Rogue in tight spaces easier and safer. The 2016 Rogue is Top Safety Pick award recipient.
